Coming off an undefeated outdoor season and a SMX world championship, all eyes were on Jett Lawrence coming into Anaheim one. Any doubters were quickly silenced as Lawrence posted the fastest qualifying times in both sessions. After a small slip up in the heat Lawrence would holeshot and lead gate drop to checkered and take the win in typical Jett fashion. Jett truly is a generational talent.
After lackluster 8, 7, 3 results in the SMX Playoffs, I was wondering if Cooper Webb was second guessing his move to Star Racing. Webb squashed any criticisms of his move after a strong heat race and promising main event performance. Webb’s bobble over the hip jump in the closing moments of the main event would cost him three positions, finishing sixth. Nonetheless he showed us his move to blue was no fluke. I’m excited to see what the honey badger does in the remaining 16 rounds.
Thinking logically, it makes sense for Eli Tomac’s season to start slow. But when you're talking about a guy that went down and came back to win last year's season opener, it's difficult to think logically. Some had Tomac picked as the winner of Saturday night's race, and others had written him off all together. Tomac had a quiet night, finishing ninth in the main. I have a sneaky suspicion his season is just heating up.
